An 11-year-old girl from Oxford, England is responsible for naming Pluto. She suggested the name to her grandfather after being inspired by the name of the Roman god of the underworld. Lowell Observatory received the suggestion and believed it fit, seeing as the first two letter are also the initials of Percival Lowell.
