Though it is hard to accurately rank dog breeds by their top speeds, the greyhound seems to be the clear winner of the race. Known to many as racing dogs, a running greyhound clocks in at around 45 mph (72.4 kmh)-and they can get up to that top speed in as little as 30 feet (9.1 m). Known as a sighthound, the greyhound also has superior eyesight, with a field of vision nearly double that of a human's. The 270-degree field of vision of a greyhound is due to the placement of their eyes on their heads.
