The definition of phobia is an abnormal and unreasonable fear. A phobia can range from exquisitely specific (like scriptophobia, the fear of writing in public) to a broader umbrella term. Agoraphobia may be considered the chief of these vague phobias-it is the fear of being in a situation place where you may experience panic, anxiety, or embarrassment. Because of its vagueness, it is very difficult to diagnose.
