Brackium Emendo! When performed correctly, that phrase is a spell used to instantly heal broken bones—according to Harry Potter, at least. Yet a real belief in witchcraft, magic, spells, potions and incantations has flourished in nearly every major religion, dating back at least ancient Egypt 5,000 years. Today, the practice is largely associated with the modern pagan religion Wicca.

But are spells and witchcraft real? Is there a spiritual truth to their power, or is their effectiveness overstated due to bias in the believer? Pick up one of these practical spells and give it a whirl (wands optional).
