Step aside, cheetah; the peregrine falcon has you beat when it comes to speed. This predatory bird dive-bombing straight down to its prey at speeds of up to 200 mph (322 km/h). Aerodynamics are the blame for the intense speeds the falcons are able to achieve on their dives-scientists say they have the "perfect bodies." Not only is there speed is mind-boggling, but peregrine falcons have equally impressive reaction skills. This quick reacting helps the birds not only snatch prey, but also avoid potentially deadly collisions. However, this speed is only reachable during the bird's hunting dive. Otherwise, it can only reach speeds of up to 55 mph (88.5 km/h).
