Memorializing Nelson Mandela
"Courageous people do not fear forgiving for the sake of peace." Nelson Mandela shared this insight on forgiveness and healing while meeting with high-ranking officials of the African apartheid movement after his release from Victor Verster Prison on February 11, 1990. And although the Internet is full of wise and inspirational quotes from Mandela, for one to truly be moved by his spirit, they must look at his actions. Mandela ran South Africa's first black law firm and became the country's first black president. He continued to inspire the world during his 27 years in prison and dedicated his life to ensuring peace and civil rights for all. He taught others to achieve peace by living his life exactly as he instructed others to do. It's no wonder he lived to 95—the man was pretty busy.
That's why it's a wonder a figure so impassioned by his quest for freedom spent nearly one-third of his life in prison for conspiracy and sabotage. Or why after his release, the FBI kept close tabs on Mandela, perceiving him as a potential communist threat. Regardless of the skepticism, Mandela undoubtedly changed the world; he sowed the seeds for racial parity, leading a worldwide movement of peace. Watch and be inspired by Mandela's life through interviews, real footage and more.
