If it looks like a snake and slithers like a snake, it still might not be a snake. In fact, "legless lizard" is not just a cute phrase for a python, it's an entirely different creature than a snake. Neither legless lizards nor snakes have arms or legs, but there are key differences between them. Legless lizards can shut their eyes and they have ears—two features snakes lack.
