It's easy to think of rabbits as the cuddly cousins of mice and other rodents. But they're actually not that closely related, despite the fact that a century ago, they were absolutely considered rodents. Their name goes beyond zoological taxonomy, though, and extends into how we think of rabbits. In fact, not too long ago, the word "rabbit" only referred to the animal's young, and full-grown rabbits were called something else entirely. Keep scrolling for more on these hopping hairballs.
