Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche

German philosopher best known for stating "God is dead," Friedrich Nietzsche was born October 15, 1844. In 1867, Nietzsche joined the Prussian artillery division, and was considered one of its best horseback riders. Injuries from an accident the following year prevented Nietzsche from riding, and he instead focused on philosophical studies.
