It's an inevitable truth of life: You will experience loss. Whether it be the death of a family member or pet, a break-up or losing a job, loss and the grief that follows can feel like a night with no dawn. But, for every loss we encounter is another chance to appreciate the brevity of life, serving as a reminder to carpe diem.

Often before gaining wisdom from a loss comes the grieving process. Research shows that grief is a complex recipe of emotions stemming from physical, emotional and mental responses to loss. Interestingly enough, science also notes these same responses and grieving behaviors in animals.
