Imagine your yard located on top of your house. This is a phenomenon you'll likely be seeing more and more in the future. It's called a green roof. Recently, France declared that all new rooftops must be green roofs or covered in solar panels. What is the reasoning behind this executive action? Environmental concerns. According to greenroofs.org, a green roof is "an extension of the existing roof which involves a high quality waterproofing and root repellant system, a drainage system, filter cloth, a lightweight growing medium and plants." Some of the benefits of green roofs include waste diversion, stormwater management, improved air quality, new amenity spaces, energy efficiency, and much more.
