Green Roofs Are Basically Roof Yards

Imagine your yard located on top of your house. This is a phenomenon you'll likely be seeing more and more in the future. It's called a green roof. Recently, France declared that all new rooftops must be green roofs or covered in solar panels. What is the reasoning behind this executive action? Environmental concerns. According to, a green roof is "an extension of the existing roof which involves a high quality waterproofing and root repellant system, a drainage system, filter cloth, a lightweight growing medium and plants." Some of the benefits of green roofs include waste diversion, stormwater management, improved air quality, new amenity spaces, energy efficiency, and much more.
