Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos Is A Nobel Laureate

On October 7, 2016, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end a civil war that lasted more than 50 years. When he was awarded the prestigious prize, the peace deal he spearheaded was still in question, as it had been rejected by Colombians in a vote earlier that month. Still, the Norwegian Nobel Committee acknowledged Santos "for his resolute efforts" to end the decades-long conflict. Learn more about Santos and his accomplishments in the videos below.
