Centipedes Cannot Have 100 Legs

Despite what their name would lead you to believe, the centipede does not have 100 legs. In fact, it's impossible for these creatures to have 100 legs, because centipedes always have an odd number of body segments and each body segment possesses two legs. Given how the odd-numbered body segments work out, it's possible for the insects to have 98 legs or 102 legs, but never 100. Another surprise: Centipedes' leg count doesn't even have to hover around 100. They can have as few as 15 pairs of legs, and as many as 171 pairs of legs.
