The Many Presidential Firsts of Barack Obama

Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1961. As a college student, he was an outspoken activist, and he went on to become a community organizer on Chicago's South Side. His political career took him from the Illinois Senate to the U.S. Senate, and ultimately to the White House. When he was elected in 2008, he became the first African-American president of the United States.
