Are Aliens Secretly Studying Life On Earth From Afar? The Zoo Hypothesis Says Yes

As far as we know, we earthlings have never made contact with extraterrestrials. (Right, conspiracy theorists?) 20th-century physicist Enrico Fermi thought that was a bit odd, considering the overwhelming likelihood that alien life exists. In 1950, his "where are all the aliens?" question became known as the Fermi paradox. Think about it: what are the chances that life on Earth is the only life in the impossibly gigantic universe? There are probably 100 Earth-like planets for every grain of sand in the world... yet we've never encountered a life form not born of this planet. What's the deal?

Explore Locations Of Close Encounters on San Clemente, Chile's UFO Trail

San Clemente, Chile might be considered the unofficial UFO capital of the world. Researchers say that hundreds of UFO sightings have been reported there since the mid 90s—as much as one per week from 1995 to mid-1996, according Rodrigo Fuenzalida, president of the Chilean Group for UFO Research (AION). To commemorate San Clemente's place in supernatural lore, the Chilean tourism board established an official UFO trail in 2008. The 19-mile (30-kilometer) trail winds through the Andes mountains to hit numerous sites where close encounters have been reported. That includes Colbún Lake, which is believed to be popular with UFOs because of its high mineral content, along with various signs detailing historic sightings. But the trail's pièce de résistance is El Enladrillado, an unusually flat expanse formed by 200 precisely cut volcanic blocks that were laid by ancient civilizations. This eery zone takes four hours to approach on horseback, and is believed to be a landing pad for flying saucers. The unique trail gives tourists a supernatural sight to pair with the country's natural splendor. Learn more about UFO sightings in the videos below.

The Alleged Secret, Underground Alien Base In Dulce, New Mexico

On the surface, Dulce, New Mexico is just a small southwestern town. But according to rumor, this little town is just a cap on a gargantuan underground facility that is home to unimaginable experiments and technologies. According to theorists, the Dulce subterranean base is a 7-story compound that houses human-animal hybrids, human-alien hybrids, and extremely advanced technologies, and has even been the site of alien wars. One key player in the Dulce base conspiracy theory is a man named Paul Bennewitz. Bennewitz, who earned a PhD in physics, became convinced that cattle mutilations around the area were the result of extraterrestrial intervention. He then began picking up intercepted electronic signals near Dulce, a town too small to receive such messages. Bennewitz theorized that these signals were coming from underground and going toward a target high in the sky. In 1982, he began spreading the rumors of an underground alien facility in Dulce, New Mexico.

China's FAST Is The World's Largest Radio Telescope

China has joined the hunt for extraterrestrial life in a massive way. In July 2016, construction on the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope, called FAST for short, was completed. The structure is the largest and most sensitive radio telescope in the world. According to China's state broadcaster CCTV, the mission for the telescope that is nearly 1km in diameter is to "search for intelligent life from outer space" and look out for pulsars that sit more than 1,000 light-years deep into space. This enormous telescope cost about $185 million, sits 140 meters deep, has a 1.6-km circumference, and is made up of nearly 4,500 panels. FAST is located in China's Guizhou province in the southwest region of the country, where it will be protected from electromagnetic disruption. Check out the videos below to learn more and FAST and other impressive telescopes.

Is Area 51 Really A Secret Alien Research Site Run By The Government?

Area 51 is the subject of a classic conspiracy theory. But where did the rumors come from? In November 1989, physicist Bob Lazar claimed to have worked at Area 51 on advanced flight technologies. Lazar said he worked on saucer-shaped spacecrafts that used anti-gravity to give them power, and that the technology was reverse-engineered from extraterrestrial technology. Later, it was discovered that Lazar lied about his MIT degree and may have never been hired to work on military intelligence at all. Some conspiracy theorists believe Lazar might have been a secret agent, planted to distract people from and misform them about the happenings at Area 51. The FBI released its files on Area 51 in August 2013. The files claim the government bought the land in 1955 to test secret spy planes and stealth bombers. We've collected some awesome videos on this topic. Watch them now to learn more.
