1986: A Tasty Only-In-Miami Story This mid-1980s story about the intermingling of Cuban and American cuisines might seem an offbeat choice as as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, but we don't think so. It's Miami in miniature, this story about non-Latin Miamians discovering new tastes like palomilla steak and sandwich de pavo and Latino Miamians chowing down on southern fried chicken and all-American hamburgers. The tastes mix, the cultures blend and the final dish is always something new. Not only that, but this little package also includes an English-language commercial for Kirby black beans featuring pronunciation-impaired actors (where exactly is "Cah-lee Ocho?") and footage of president Ronald Reagan taking lunch at La Esquina de Tejas in Little Havana. And if you've ever wondered what became of the Gipper's place setting after that historic lunch, this clip has the answer.
